About Us

Thornhill Nursery School & Kindergarten is a non-profit, non-denominational preschool featuring spacious, bright classrooms and a fully equipped, fenced-in outdoor playground area. Licensed since 1956, our goal is to provide a stimulating, challenging and progressive educational experience in a safe and nurturing environment, while remaining one of the most cost-effective options for parents within Northern Toronto and central York Region.

Our Philosophy

Thornhill Nursery School & Kindergarten provides a strong foundation of social and academic skills that aim at developing the whole child. Growth is fostered through a challenging curriculum, balancing enriched programming with opportunities that promote creativity and social interaction. From the start, our warm and nurturing environment has focused on building self-esteem and self-confidence, enabling each child to reach his/her unique potential, while encouraging a lifelong love of learning. Children learn best through play and hands-on experiences. Our behaviour management policy is based on setting realistic age-appropriate limits.

Our Vision Statement:

We will achieve excellence for our students through:

Innovation: We will create an environment that embraces change and is open to new ideas.

Continuous Learning: We are both a learning and a teaching body. We will educate our students to be successful in a world that is on the cusp of new technologies and enhanced information flow. We will also continuously educate ourselves, and thereby provide the latest knowledge to our students.

Teamwork: In harnessing and embracing the collaborative power of our diverse team, we will achieve results together that are greater than any individual effort.

High Performance: In striving for excellence, we will perform beyond our expectations and achieve our goals.

Parent and Community Partnership: Through working closely and communicating with our parents and students, we will understand their expectations and anticipate their needs. To deliver the best early childhood education possible, we rely on the combined efforts of our professional registered early childhood educators, a volunteer board of directors and parental involvement.

Our goals are to:

  • Encourage friendships and co-operative play.
  • Stimulate self-expression while showing respect and consideration for others.
  • Foster individuality and creativity.
  • Nurture a natural curiosity about the world.
  • Promote independence and responsibility.
  • Achieve academic readiness for primary education.
